Technology Essential Learning Area

This exciting essential learning area prepares students to participate in society as citizens with a broad technological literacy and have access to technology related and high demand careers, according to the New Zealand Curriculum.

Equipment and Techniques

In our school we draw upon a wide range of skills to give students the opportunity to work with different materials and learn to use equipment and techniques particular to the speciality. In Year 7 and 8 students rotate from one area to the next to get an introduction and aim to achieve at level 3 of the curriculum. In Year 9 they get to choose options which run for a semester and in Year 10 the options are for a whole year. This prepares students to access level 6 of the curriculum in Year 11 and at the end of that gain NCEA Level 1. Some of the senior level courses are aimed at specific pathways such as Hospitality, Building or Engineering. Other courses also give students credits that count towards University Entrance such as Textiles Technology, Wood Technology, Computer Programming and Digital Media.
