On Tuesday 1st December the annual Golden Kauri trip took place for the top 3 students in each core class who have received the most Golden Kauri (GKs). The GKs are awarded for following the OTA Way in class and around the school, that is, safe, respectful behaviour in the learning environment. Students also receive GKs for excellent attendance throughout the year and for participating in the various inter-iwi events from athletics to cooking, chess and the arts.
The students enjoyed five hours at the park with the last two hours relatively queue free as most of the other schools had left early. Students tried to get the older staff on rides like the 'stratosphere', but wisdom prevailed, although Mr Blake was first to most of the rides with many students following in his wake.
On the way home we stopped for dinner at Burger King after a very long ride through the Auckland rush hour traffic, but Lisa, our great bus driver, got us home safely, albeit an hour and a half late.
The students and staff had a great time and, as always, were a credit to the Otamatea High School community.
