Sports Council

The role of the Sports Council is to assist in strengthening the organisational structure for delivering sport in the school with the aim of achieving the following outcomes:

        i.           Increased student participation

ii.           Enhancement of the quality of the sports delivered to the students

Following the model taken from Otago the council believes that building a close relationship with the community is essential. Liaising with clubs, regional sporting organisations, sport trusts, ex pupils, tertiary institutions, parents and friends of the school are extremely important in achieving these objectives.

The council provides a governance role for sport and recreation in the school community and a guidance and support role for the sport coordinator.

The governance role includes agreement on:

  • Sport and recreation policies

  • Sport and recreation strategic and annual planning

Secondary roles for the council include funding applications, training programmes, assisting community connections for sport and recreation, linking learning between school classroom programmes and outside of classroom programmes.
